As humans, we need to feel like we are contributing to something bigger than ourselves. So many times, I hear clients and friends achieve so much in the corporate world only to feel like “is this all there is?”
Maybe you can relate?
You do, do, do, because you were taught that was the path to success, but no one gave you permission to go deeply into the WHY that is driving you. So you ended up in a nine to five grind job to pay the bills, keep up with the Jones and get a bit ahead, and it doesn’t fill your soul. Now? You feel the massive gap between you and your purpose, and ultimately your fulfillment.
Discovering your true purpose – beyond what society tells you – is a journey of becoming, of developing a deep understanding of yourself so you can do what you love to do, in the way you love to do it, with the people you love most and the way that the world most needs done.
I, too, struggled with this gap between myself and my purpose for a number of years. I always felt like I needed to do more, needed to have more, my health was affected, my relationships impacted, and the voice inside me began shouting at me. I found it came down to a lack of intentionality in life. I was so concerned about the busyness I had created around me, all I could do was go into default mode. My day often looked like this: alarm goes off, hit snooze, work work work, let the dogs out, go to the studio to work in my business, think about work, go to bed, and then wake up and do it all over again, all on the brink of burnout.
So, what changed things for me? Getting present, getting intentional, and getting grateful. By prioritizing presence, intentionally turning within to connect with my deeper reason for being, and consistently practicing gratitude, I realized I didn’t need more from external sources.. I just needed to slow down and partake in the internal process of becoming to experience the fullness of life that I had been seeking for so long.
Easy to think about, much harder to put into practice. That was one of my major hurdles, it all made sense intellectually, but I really didn’t know what to change or where to start!
If you’re experiencing the same feelings of being stuck in the life you created, trapped by your success, and feeling called to something more and ready for the next level I encourage you to pursue presence and surrender. One way to do that is to connect inward, to source the love and that, that deep, that deep well of higher potential and inner guidance that’s inside of you trying to get your attention.
Stephanie and I had the honor of chatting with Erin Attere about this exact topic in episode 76 of The Soulful Leader Podcast. Erin is not only inspiring, but this episode is rich with concrete steps you can take today to start shifting from where you are to where you want to be. Take a listen!
